Legion at the Mass Effect Wiki
[ Personality ] :
Since the geth are a collective consciousness, Legion has no individual personality. Legion refers to itself as "we” since there is more than one program within it. Geth have no social hierarchy or power structure, so each program has the same weight in considering decisions, and every action made depends on which path has been decided as the best by a majority number of the programs within Legion. Their decisions are usually done for the greater good of the geth. Legion is not weighed down with a conscience or an ethical moral code; they choose the best path for the highest chance of success, regardless of whether or not it's considered the "right" thing to do. They also don’t have any semblance of privacy; Legion typically won't refrain from hacking into anything if they want to know how it works or think it will get them vitally important information.
Legion is logical through and through. However, while Legion might try to deny their ability to feel emotions, there are often times when they show emotional depth and react irrationally - when asked why they used Shepard's armor to patch the hole on their chest, they try to play it off as a necessity, but when pushed they say there is "no data available", suggesting it was an impulsive move and that they have no idea why they did it either. Legion even expresses something akin to pity for the geth heretics, since they are not pursuing their own future and instead are letting the Reapers make their future for them. They even seem to admire Commander Shepard for standing up against the Reapers despite the overwhelming odds against her. Because geth can usually contact the rest of their people no matter where they are in the galaxy, not being able to contact the rest of the geth will be disorientating and disconcerting for Legion. It’s akin to being suddenly dropped in the middle of nowhere after living in a large city for all your life. Because of this, Legion is likely to seek out other synthetics in hopes of regaining any semblance of normalcy. Despite this, Legion will continually insist that they do not feel emotions.
However, geth are capable of learning and evolving, and have spent a lot of the 300 years they have existed studying organics through their extranet transmissions. They are especially fascinated by organics and their preoccupation with individualism, and their willingness to believe things without proof, to the point that Legion admitted that the geth sent out false information to study the reaction of organics. A dossier of Legion even has information that they have been playing games on the extranet to interact with organics (amusingly enough, Legion had a temporary account suspension for taunting other players).
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
Legion is a talented fighter and is proficient with guns, especially sniper rifles and assault rifles. As an AI, they have the ability to hack just about anything, though that doesn't necessarily mean they can do it quickly.
Since geth have no internal organs or nervous system, Legion neither feels pain or has to do anything beyond basic repair and maintenance for his body to work. They are stronger than organics to a point (maybe about 20% stronger) and can work without needing to stop until their platform requires repair.
Legion can also think at speeds far greater than any organic can, often coming to consensus within seconds. Because of his complexity and the high number of programs within it, Legion is also highly resistant to attempts to hack and reprogram it.
Weaknesses:
Geth are far from immortal and can die as easily as a human if injured in the right place. They seem to "bleed" a viscous white fluid when injured, and losing enough of this or having important internal systems damaged severely will result in death.
If hit with an electromagnetic pulse, Legion will be temporarily knocked offline until his systems can reboot.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Holstered on his back is a M-98 Widow sniper rifle and a M-76 Revenant assault rifle, both of which use mass effect technology. This basically accelerates the slugs to extremely high speeds (because of this, the slugs in his guns are made to shatter upon impact to cause the most damage, like hollow point bullets, because a normal bullet would cause minimal damage due to the sheer speed it would pass through the body). Legion also has an orange-colored fighter drone that is capable of zapping enemies with electricity (usually not enough to kill, mostly to stun and drain shields). It’s unknown of what the drone is made of, since it basically looks like a shifting ball of light and disappears when not being used.
[ Sample ] :
Current location unknown. Shepard-Commander, requesting your assistance.
...Shepard-Commander? Garrus Vakarian?
If there is anyone that can hear this, we appear to be out of communication range with our squad. Requesting location data and information on how we have come to be in this place. There is no missing data from our database, suggesting that we have potentially lost recent memory files and have been rebooted from a previous archival copy.
There is currently no known location in the galaxy that matches the description of our current location. Our current hypothesis is that this is an unknown colony, though there has been no news on the extranet about a new colony. More data is required to extrapolate on our hypothesis.
We are willing to exchange data or favors for more information pertaining to our current whereabouts. We are especially interested in data on how to return to our previous location.
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :
Would it be at all possible for Legion to hack the starfish communicators, mainly so he can access the network and send text/voice messages through it remotely from his own personal comm frequency? And is it possible for him to hack through filters on the network posts?
